His major publications are related to innovative techniques for data analytics, artificial intelligence and digital signal processing. Multiple systems are available for biometric analysis, such as: Electroencephalogram (EEG), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) or functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) for the brain activity; Heart Rate Variability (HRV) to analyze the heart beats modulation; Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) considering the emotional changes in skin conductance; fixed and mobile eye tracking systems to capture the vision focus, movements and sequences; classification of emotional states based on automatic facial expressions recognition. Studies using these technologies can be focus both on the use of standalone solutions or the use of multiple systems in parallel to provide complementary information of emotional states and improve cognitive analysis.\u00a0 It is important to notice that, although the use of those technologies for educational purposes is being widely adopted by the scientific community, the research design considering multiple systems in parallel, considering innovative technologies such as brain monitoring using fNIRS, focused on specific and multiple cognitive issues is still a significant open field for innumerous researches and applications.<\/span><\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alexandre Lobo\u2019s research in education is focused on the development of systems to analyse and establish the connection between physiological signals monitoring (brain, heart and others) and their applications in different areas in education, such as cognitive development and stress management.
